ADVENTURE AWAITS ON THIS FUN CROSS COUNTRY TRIP!
Have YOU ever taken a serious Road Trip? Like a 2700 mile Road Trip? Well, neither had Sean and I until we decided to break away from the Florida sunshine and trade it in for the open roads of the American South and Southwest.
Now, don't underestimate our previous travels. Both Sean and I HAVE visited areas of the South and Southwest. But driving through it is a whole different experience. I guess I never really thought I was missing anything, until I actually saw what I had been missing......

After leaving Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana were easy drive through states. Simple 2 lane highways, with small cities and towns at each exit. After staying a night near New Orleans, we were ready to take on Texas!
East Texas is a Metropolis of 7 lane highways, skyscrapers and TRAFFIC! Be prepared to deal with crazy drivers and LOTS of them.....for a couple hours. But once you get through it, and move into west Texas, the landscape changes, and so do the people. West Texas is very flat - with prairie land, dust fields, and sometimes 30-40 miles between exits. THIS is an area you want to keep an eye on your gas tank.

West Texas has it's history - as you can see from our video. Go visit Kirsten is Iraan and tell her the Kling Connection sent you! And just when you think you can't take seeing another sign for the 100's of miles to get to LA, you cross the border into New Mexico!
I LOVED traveling through New Mexico! It's a gorgeous state! You start to see the landscape changing again with the mesas and plateaus off in the distance. As you cross the state, the mesas and plateaus begin to take on a more reddish color. A great way of indicating Arizona is just around the corner.

If you've never seen the Red Rocks of Arizona, it is certainly something to be seen!
These beautiful structures rise from the dessert floor and create enormous sculpture like projections. You could almost use them as a land map. I love to notice each one's uniqueness- it's color, shape, height, etc. How did they come to be so majestic?
And finally crossing over a small river into California, the highway is lined with palm trees and other tropical foliage. I guess as a "knock" to Arizona, although I can't image why. (I don't get political like that)
As we follow the GPS instructions towards the AirBNB in Newport Beach, it suddenly gets kind of foggy and rainy. The weather here in California can act very tropical, so sometimes they get an afternoon rain. However the temperature is on the cooler side, which produces more fog as well. We arrive on Balboa Island and it's the most ADORABLE little marina town. Cute little coffee shops and Pho restaurants. Seafood places, shopping, nails, etc.
About 5 min down the road into Newport is our unit. We have a 1 bedroom/ 1 bath apartment where a good shower and long sleep is exactly what we're ready for next!!
