Historic Irvine...in an Instant!

Writer: Shana D.Shana D.

Old Historic Irvine in Southern California might not be on your radar for places to visit in the United States. As a matter of fact, you may have never even HEARD of historic Irvine! And neither had we! But adventures often start with the least expectations, so Sean and I decided to take a peak.

And we are SO glad we did. Completely off the beaten path, historic Irvine is only about a 3 square mile plot of land, which mainly consists of a train station and some small business buildings. The best surprise happened as soon as we arrived- the tracks of the station are still active and a high speed train came barreling through.

As we investigated more, we realized the station was actually in the process of conversion to a community business center with a karate studio, yoga studio, architect business, and others. The original character and authenticity of the train station hadn't changed from it's original pictures which were visible on some of the windows. How cool is that??

Feed, grain, and beans were the main items that passed through the station at Irvine on any given day. Those staples were kept in silos before being off-loaded to their final destination. Today, those silos have been transformed into hotels rooms for the current La Quinta hotel that houses that space.

And finally, the 1890's style buildings, now hold offices for local businesses like dentists, real estates and the like. It's awesome to see this urban development happening in these older parts of the state. and what a spectacular way to save the history of the buildings that once operated a local, and very important rail stop in Southern California called Irvine.
