FRESH FRUIT AND VEGGIES ANYONE?!?!

I love nothing more than visiting a local farmer's market or farm stand where I can see where my food was grown! Here at U-Pick-Topia in Masaryktown, Fl (near Dade City), there were veggies and strawberries galore ripe for OUR picking! And we had a wonderful time walking around the farm seeing the chickens, and the other fields that get prepared for fall pumpkins.


Sean and I may not have gotten all the vegetables we were looking for- but we also went to the farm at the end of the season. I would have loved to pick some of that gorgeous lettuce, but I would have hated to throw any of it away, being that I had just bought some. Here was the menu of the rows of vegetables they had listed behind the register:



I did end up making a delicious potato soup with carrots and kale. I used a turkey broth base and added some Italian seasoning and a couple teaspoons of heavy cream. Sean gave me the big thumbs up!


What I haven't mentioned yet were the STRAWBERRIES. If you buy strawberries at the grocery store, and then you buy strawberries at a local farmers market.......I PROMISE- you will never buy grocery store strawberries again. The luscious little pops of juicy red goodness were the sweetest berries I'd ever had. Sean agreed! They were delicious over pancakes, as a snack with some whipped cream, but I like them best just the way they are.


My suggestion to you: GO visit your local farm market and see what fruits and vegetables they have for sale. Try something new! Or, try something you like and compare the flavor to what you've bought in the past.

Farm to table isn't just a trend- your tongue will know and thank you!
